. Choose a variety of foods, especially complex carbohydrates and fiber: whole grains, beans, vegetable, and fruit

. Some proteins are better than others. Animal proteins are least desirable as they contain so much fat. Fish, skinned poultry, beans a handful of almonds and walnuts, a bit of cheese. (That doesn’t mean sitting down with a plateful of cheese and crackers)

. Limit saturated (animal) and trans fats (partially hydrogenated vegetable oils), margarine and shortenings. Unsaturated fat from fish, nuts and avocados is good.

. Eat sweets in moderation, preferably those with xylitol or stevia. Stay away from Nutrasweet, Splenda, High Fructose corn Syrup.

. Don’t overeat at one sitting to fill up, eat often. Six small meals per day is best.

. Have some healthy snacks: fruit, popcorn without salt or butter, a handful of nuts. By spreading your calories and carbs throughout the day, you help control your blood sugar.

Diet for Children with Autism

Over all, when you are choosing anti-inflammatory foods to help reduce your inflammation and pain, choose fresh foods instead of heavily processed foods. Here are some tips:

·Oatmeal served with fresh berries and walnuts, with a cup of soy milk.
·Snack on whole fruits, nuts, seeds, and fresh vegetables throughout the day instead of cookies and candy.
·Eat more fish and less fatty red meat.
·Stay away from deep fried foods and bake or stir fry your meals instead.
·Choose green, orange, and yellow vegetables for your side dishes.
·Drink plenty of water, fresh 100% fruit and vegetable juices, herbal teas and green tea.

To Lower Cholesterol

. Tomatoes
. Green vegetables: brussel sprouts, broccoli (Spinach is fairly high in sodium, so are carrots and celeryp>

Read the labels and avoid high sodium foods. Note: Almost any prepared frozen food is ultra high in sodium. Most canned goods are high in sodium as well. Go to your local Trader Joe’s or other health food store where you will find snacks with low or no sodium. You’ll find:

No salt Tortilla chips - crunchy, not very tasty but dip them in Hummus if you like
Rice cakes (taste great with avocado smeared on it)
Black beans
Brown rice pasta (pasta has no sodium but brown is always better than white)
Some hummus spread (check the labels for low sodium spreads) Freshly made salsa Pop corn (pop in an air popper, squirt some I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter on it or any kind of spice except salt, i.e., chili powder, onion flakes, etc.

No salt cottage cheese – 40 grams instead of the usual 250 - made by Knudsen
