Spiritual Wellness For Everyone
There’s Something Bigger Than Me
Without a dedicated intention of spiritual wellness, your life will most likely be a roller coaster. One day you’ll feel great and the next day you may feel depressed or worried about something you can’t do much about. This kind of life is exhausting!
It doesn’t matter if you are a Christian, Jew, Moslem or agnostic. You don’t have to continually struggle to fix one thing after another. I’m going to share the secret with you. Even if you don’t believe, look at the possibility that there might be a higher power and a divine plan working in your life. And, as they say, let go and let God (or nature, or Allah, or Jesus, or Yaweh, or whatever you want to call that power) take over. Here are a few ways to begin.

Gain Peace of Mind
. Start your day with gratitude and appreciation. If you don’t have a gratitude list yet, write one. Gratitude is primarily the secret to spiritual wellness.
. Take a few breaths and plan to have good things happen today.
. Be content with what you have. The neighbor with the richer husband or bigger car or more appreciative children have their own challenges.
Once you gain peace of mind your physical wellness will improve as well. Feeling peaceful puts less strain on your heart, helps lower your blood pressure and relieves unhealthy stress.
Slow Down, You’re Going Too Fast
.Practice feeling centered. In other words, enjoy the moment without thinking about what else you want to do.
. Be more patient and understanding. That means allow people to be who they are without trying to fix them. They are on the path to their own spiritual wellness.
. Give up at least a bit of control. Close your eyes and turn to whatever and whoever you call God.
. Start viewing nature with the awe and respect it deserves. Think of this. Man did not make the Grand Canyon or the Pacific Ocean. Get out in nature. Take a walk on the beach or in the woods. Studies have shown that daily exercise does as much good as taking an anti-depressant.
Learn to Be More Optimistic
. Have faith that whatever is going on will turn out well. even your kids. Worrying leads to heart disease, high blood pressure and premature aging.
. Make the room brighter when you walk in, not when you walk out. In other words, bring in light instead of doom and gloom.
. Exercise your optimism muscle. Use positive affirmations. Tell yourself, “Everything is for my highest good”, or for negative situation, “This too shall pass.” With physical, emotional and spiritual wellness life can be very, very sweet. If you don’t believe that , “fake it ‘til you make it”.
Find Your Spiritual Path
. Read books on spirituality. We’ve included several in our ‘Current Health News’ section. Although religions disagree on many things, they do agree that some kind of spiritual power exists.
. Visit different churches, synagogues or temples and find one that touches your heart.
. Listen to comforting music, the kind that allows you to daydream or just relax.
. Develop a community of friends that live life with joy, peace and great optimism.
There is no secret to happiness. But learning to trust a higher power than your own lets you off the hook. Release that worry of the day. Most things you worry about never happen. Let go of trying to manipulate the world – particularly your family - to fit your opinion of how it should run. And let your personal God take over. I know, I’ve lived both ways. Let me tell you a secret. This way is much, much easier. The quality of my life and yours depends upon our spiritual wellness.
